Governor Douye Diri has welcomed defectors from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State.
Speaking in Government House, Yenagoa, while receiving the returnees are from constituency 1 to 4 in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Governor Diri appreciated the PDP leadership there for keying into government’s ideals.
Governor Diri who stated that Bayelsa was created for development, regretted the pull- him-down syndrome which crept in and assured the returnees that they will be carried along.
The Governor expressed optimism that the PDP will continue to be victorious in the State given its respect for laws and its grassroots support.
Earlier, the PDP state Chairman, Mr. Solomon Agwana, lauded the leadership qualities of Governor Douye Diri and assured the returnees that their rights and privileges will be accorded them.
Also, Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Chief Collins Cocodia, said the defectors returned due to the performance of Governor Diri, whom he said is changing the fortunes of the state.
He urged them to join hands to make Bayelsa State greater.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Pastor Kime Oyinkuro thanked the governor for the reception and promised their support to the party.
