Bayelsa Governor’s Wife commends group for giving cancer patients hope

Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria (BRECAN) in partnership with Bayelsa State Emergency Maternal Child Health Intervention Centre (BYSEMCHIC) have conducted awareness campaign tagged “Jog for Life” in Yenagoa.

Wife of Bayelsa State Governor, Dr. Gloria Diri  who commended BRECAN for the initiative to give hope to patients of breast and cervical cancers as well as saving lives, pledged to support the group to prevent the disease.

Wife of Ondo state Governor and founder of BRECAN, Chief Betty Akeredolu and National President, Mrs. Tolu Taiwo who thanked Dr. Diri for the reception accorded the team and the Bayelsa chapter for its preparedness to prevent cancer.

Speaking on behalf of partners, a Public Health Consultant BYSEMCHIC Dr. Larry Oweibia and Programme Lead of Women and Children Hope Alive Development Foundation, Pastor Jephthah Abiri described the campaign as timely to create more awareness that breast cancer is not a death sentence but curable through early presentation.

Responding on behalf of the new executive, Chairperson Mrs. Felicia Afenfia said the narrative of breast cancer needs a solemn reflection due to its mortality rate in Nigeria that will be taken to the remotest communities in Bayelsa.

Goodwill messages, Health talk symptoms and prevention of breast cancer, drama, demonstrate for monthly self examination and jog for life campaign from Ekeki Park to Peace Park, Ovom formed climax of the event.
