California police say the gunman suspected of killing ten people in a ballroom dance studio near Los Angeles was a seventy-two -year-old Asian, who was later found dead in a white van.

The man, Huu Can Tran, had a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was declared dead at the scene.

The mass shooting, one of the deadliest in California’s history, took place at the popular Star Ballroom Dance Studio in Monterey Park, about seven miles east of central Los Angeles.

Ten people were wounded in the shooting, and seven are still in hospital with some in a critical condition
