Bayelsa 2022 Appropriation Bill Passes Second Reading.

The Appropriation Bill for the 2022 fiscal year has passed through second reading on the floor of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.

The Budget christened “Budget of Sustainable Growth” is appropriated with the sum of with 310,700,000,000  capital expenditure gulping100,900,000,000 personnel cost 67,400,000,000 and running cost of 70,500,000,00.

Opening the debate on the Bill, Leader of the House, Mr. Monday Bubou-Obolo said the assumptions are clearly stated, concise, and realizable based on the parameters in the Medium Term Expenditure Framework earlier submitted to the House.

Mr. Bubou-Obolo said the appropriation bill should be giving speedy passage as it intends to provide amenities to the citizenry and Governor Douye Diri is aimed at completing the ongoing projects and executing new ones to meet the needs of the people..

Speaking also in support of the bill, retired Colonel Bernard Kenebai, Dr Tonye Isenah and Tare Porri who praised Governor Diri for the prudent use of funds in executing projects across the State said the House will give expeditious passage of the bill.

According to them, despite the challenges, the Governor has implemented the current budget with the evidence of projects spreading across the State.

Similarly, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, Mr. Salo Adikumo and Mr. Gibson Munalayefa lauded the present administration for the continuity and execution of new projects, stressing that approving the appropriation bill will usher in more infrastructural development.

They also emphasized that strengthening the agricultural sector and value chain to diversify the economy which is captured in the budget will create job opportunities amongst others.

The Bill was later referred to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation to report back in 2weeks.

The House also took the first reading of Audit Law Amendment Bill 2021.
