Bayelsa Elders Council condemns recent politically-motivated killings in Nembe

Bayelsa Elders Council has condemned in totality, the recent politically-motivated killings in Nembe Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement, Chairman of Council, retired Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John-Jonah expressed concern, dismay and sadness, noting that the peace accord signed by various political groups in Nembe to engender sustained peace was ignored.

Retired Rear Admiral John-Jonah averred that key political players and actors have reneged on dropping their old habits and bent on violence, destructive ways and tendencies to entrench themselves in power by force.

He called on the State Government and security agencies to fish out the criminal involved and make them face the law.

The former Deputy Governor commended security agencies for bringing the situation under control but insist that political affiliations come into play when dealing with the perpetrators.

He noted that Nembe Local Government Area has experienced and suffered violence in the guise of playing politics, and the people of the area can no longer tolerate the regular breach of their peace of mind and wellbeing.

Retired Rear Admiral John-Jonah, in the statement, further hope believe that decisive action would be taken to maintain law and order to enable people vote candidates of their choice peacefully during the coming elections in all communities in the state.

He appealed to Governor Douye Diri to direct the traditional leadership in the various communities to be more proactive in dealing with issues of security in their domains.
