Bayelsa Government Warns Motorists Violating Traffic Rules

Government has warned motorists in Bayelsa State violating traffic rules and regulations to desist from such.

In a statement, Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Honourable Ayiba Duba said the recent protest by transporters against security agencies enforcing the laws and regulations also constituted threats to public order.

According to Honourable Duba, the State Security Council in its last meeting resolved that relevant security agencies must continue to enforce all traffic rules and regulations in the State in order to restore orderliness on all roads.

He noted that, road users should obey traffic rules and regulations, stating that overloading of vehicles and tricycles is prohibited.

Honourable Duba said all motorists and tricycles must have valid driver’s license and vehicle papers while on the road.

The Commissioner, who warned members of the public to desist from sitting in front with the tricycle rider, emphasized that buses and taxi operators should also avoid over load and passengers beyond the capacity of their vehicles adding that anyone caught violating the rules will be penalized according to the law.
