Bayelsa House of Assembly approves bills for alteration nineteen ninety-nine constitution

Bayelsa State House of Assembly has approved some Bills for the fifth alteration of the nineteen ninety-nine constitution as amended.

The Bills approved include an Act to establish the Office of the Attorney- General of the Federation and State separate from the Office of the Minister of Justice or Commissioners for Justice of the States.

This is to make the offices of Attorney’s – General independent and insulated from partisanship. Some others approved are bills to provide for independent candidacy in Presidential, Governorship, National Assembly, State Houses of Assembly and Local Government Councils elections and also provide for the financial independence of State Houses of Assembly and State Judiciary.

In another development, the House of Assembly has received for screening and confirmation, three nominees for the New Yenagoa City Development Agency.

They are Ms Emi Faloughi as Managing Director, Michael Zitua Makpah, Executive Director, Operations and Akpane Jacob, Executive Director, Finance and Administration.

To this end, the nominees have been told to submit thirty copies each of relevant credentials to the office of the Clerk of the House next week Monday and appear before the legislators on Tuesday.
