Bayelsa prepares for Development Summit to change state esthetics

Bayelsa State House of Assembly Committee on Physical Planning and Development Board has expressed readiness to provide legislative backing to enable the Board operate effectively.

Chairman of the Committee, Mr Teddy Elemeforo gave the assurance while playing host to the Chairman  and Members of the Board at the Assembly Complex, Yenagoa.

Mr  Elemeforo noted that, though the Law establishing the Board provided a review within five  years, however there has been no such in the past seven years.

He explained that while the Committee’s immediate concern is the esthetic beauty of the capital city, the Board should ensure that the same is replicated at the various local government  Headquarters.

MrElemeforo  commended the Board for its creativity and innovations it has brought to bear,  nothing that the Committee would participate in the forth – coming Development Summit as a well planned city could reduce crime rate, boost tourism and increase the internally generated revenue of the State.

Also speaking, a Member of the Committee, Mr Moses Marlon  praised the Board for it’s efforts and admonished  members to implement laws to the letter when passed by the House.

Earlier, the Chairman, Bayelsa State Physical Planning and Development Board, Alabo Gideon Ekeowe had intimated the Committee with the programmes of a Development Summit,  which will draw resource persons, the academia, public and private sectors.

The areas to be explored, according to AlaboEkeowe, include X- raying Bayelsa State Physical Planning and Development Law ( 2015) and its regulations, Land tenure system in Nigeria, Challenges in the preparation of Physical Development plan in the State.

Other areas are drainage Master plan as a way of addressing flooding in Yenagoa, imperatives for Urban Renewal in Yenagoa Capital territory Road Network as well as its implications on Security and Architecture in Physical Planning in the State  amongst others.
