Bayelsa State Assembly charges Development Board on master plan implementation.

Chairman, Bayelsa State House of Assembly Committee on Physical Planning and Development, Mr. Teddy Elemeforo, urged the board to adhere to the state master plan put in place by the founding fathers.

Mr Elemeforo who gave the charge when the committee visited to the board, also enjoined the board to replicate the ideas and creativity in terms of design and execution of programmes in city centres like Trans – Amadi industrial layout and Amadi flats in Rivers State.

The Lawmaker opined that in planning the city, people should know the inherent problems and proffer solutions especially informing the public about lands that have been acquired by government in order to avoid conflicts arising from illegal multiple acquisitions.

According to him, apart from the need to properly enlighten the public about its activities, the board should have requisite personnel to enable it monitor development activities within Yenagoa and its environs.

The Committee Chairman who commended the board for their professionalism in coming up with a blueprint and a development summit, however urged them to partner with the House so that the issue of legislative backing will not be a challenge.

Also, a member of the committee and deputy Speaker, Mr Michael Ogbere praised the board for a job well done, but frowned at the conduct of some MDA’s spending monies generated without authorization.

Briefing the Committee earlier, Chairman of the Bayelsa State Physical Planning and Development Board, Alabo Gideon Ekeowe said the present board was inaugurated on the nineteenth of June, last year and members have performed well by coming up with the blueprint for the development of the state which they intend to make available to the House soon.

Alabo Ekeowe reiterated that the board, as a creation of law will avoid issues that are detrimental to the well-being of the people, but will create a model city that will be an economic hub.

The Chairman equally explained that due to enormous distortion of the original master plan, some demolitions need to be carried out to establish sanity and create a befitting city.
