Bayelsa State Government has reaffirmed commitment to prioritize the welfare of its employees including those in the higher institutions.
In a statement Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Honourable Ayibaina Duba said the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo gave the assurance in a meeting with the leadership of Bayelsa State Higher Institution Joint Action Committee (HIJAC) at Government House Yenagoa.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo was also reported to have commended the leadership and members of HIJAC for their understanding, assuring them of Government’s commitment to timely resolution of pending issues with the union in order to promote excellence in the institutions
The statement noted that at the end of the meeting, HIJAC, led by its Chairman, Comrade Aduba Okilo and Secretary, Comrade Brambaifa Lucky, in the presence of the Nigerian Labour Congress Chairman, Bayelsa State Chapter, Comrade John Ndiomu and his Trade Union Congress counterpart, Comrade Julius Laye suspended HIJAC planned protest.
According to the statement, the meeting also agreed that the physical staff verification of the disengaged staff of the Niger Delta University, Isaac Boro College of Education and other higher institutions will commence on the fifth of next month.
It added that the committee set up by government on the implementation of reports on higher institutions has up to Thursday this week to turn in their report
