Bayelsa State Governor declared work-free days for public servants

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri has declared one week work-free days for public servants in the State with exemption of those on essential duties to tackle the challenges of ravaging flood across various communities.

Speaking during a special broadcast on flood situation in Bayelsa State, Governor Diri appealed to traders, fuel dealers and pharmaceutical shop owners among others not to exploit residents as a result of the flood.

The Governor also warned miscreants taking advantage of the present situation to commit crime to desist or face the law.

According to him, Bayelsa State Taskforce on Flood, Mitigation and Management in collaboration with the State Emergency Agency has established IDP camps and provided relief materials for flood victims.

Governor Diri also directed that distribution of the materials should be done in a non partisan manner.

While appreciating President Muhammadu Buhari for the directive to federal agencies to assist residents, the State Chief Executive also appealed for special grants from stabilization, ecological and natural resources funds to support victims.

Governor Diri also called on multinational and international donor agencies as well as people of goodwill to come to the aid of the people as the situation is overwhelming.
