Today is Bayelsa State annual Thanksgiving Day.
The event which is the eleventh edition in accordance with Bayelsa State Thanksgiving Law enacted in twenty-twelve by former Governor Seriake Dickson draws clergymen from all over the country, political class, captains of industry and lovers of God to re-dedicate themselves to the principles of governance.
Interestingly, Bayelsa State is the only state in Nigeria celebrating Thanksgiving Day like the United States, Canada, Grenada, Saint Lucia and Liberia.
Governor Douye Diri therefore urged the people of Bayelsa State to participate in the thanksgiving service irrespective of the present flooding that rendered many homeless and livelihoods gone.
The Governor noted that God is the sustainer of the universe and people should draw closer for Him in thanksgiving no matter the situation.
Meanwhile, Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Ayiba Duba says the Etegwe end of Glory Drive off, Airport Road, formally Etegwe Amassoma Road will be temporarily open for easy access to the venue of the thanksgiving at Ecumenical Centre, Igbogene.
The statement urges the public, especially those attending the Thanksgiving Day Service today to take note.
