The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has declared veteran
Joseph Boakai winner of Liberia presidential election, beating
incumbent George Weah, after completing the ballot count.
President of the commission, Davidetta Browne Lansanah said
Veteran Boakai won with 50.4% of the vote, against 49.36% of the vote for former
international football star Weah, however, has already conceded defeat based on the results ofmore than 99.8%percent of the polling stations.
However, the commission head said it had received two appeals from
Weah's party concerning the conduct of the election in Nimba County.
She said the commission has 30 days to investigate and reach a
decision.
