British University Returns Stolen Artifact To Nigeria

Cambridge University has become the first British institution to return looted artifacts from Benin Bronze to Nigeria authorities.

Jesus College, yesterday handed over a statue of cockerel to the delegation from Nigeria at a ceremony in the institution.

This is coming after years of campaign by activists for the return of looted bronze statues.

The bronze statue, known as “Okukur”, was stolen by British colonial forces in eighteen ninety-seven.

After being looted, the artifact was given to Jesus College in nineteen-ou-five by the father of a student.

The college, whose crest features a cockerel, announced in twenty-nineteen that it intends to return the looted treasure to Nigeria.
