Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had directed banks to comply with the Supreme Court ruling that the old notes remain legal tender alongside the redesigned notes till December thirty-first.

According to reports, banks have started accepting the old five hundred naira note and one thousand notes from customers without requesting for the CBN cash return reference code.

Reports say there has been increasing acceptance of the old notes among Nigerians, while rejection persisted in some segments especially among transporters.
