Federal government shifts population, housing census till May

Federal Government has shifted this year’s Population and Housing Census, earlier scheduled for March 19th to May.

Information and Culture Minister Lai Mohammed said the census was rescheduled following the postponement of the governorship and Houses of Assembly elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission from March 11 to March 18.

Mohammed announced the new date while addressing State House correspondents after a Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The minister also said the council approved two point 8,000000 naira for the National Population Commission to buy essential software for the conduct of the headcount.

On the construction of an access road linking the Benin-Asaba expressway to the Second Niger Bridge, Mohammed said 15, 000000 naira was approved by Council.

He expressed hope that the completion of the road would help achieve the dream of inaugurating the bridge before May 29

He added that the dualization of Suleja-Minna road in Niger State was also on the front burner and ,000000 naira was approved as variation.
