Federal government to direct TV stations to use sign language interpreter.

Federal Government says television stations in the country will be directed to adopt the use of sign language interpreters.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed stated this at the 2021 annual lecture organized by Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria in partnership with Albino Foundation and European Union.

Alhaji Mohammed was responding to a complaint by a former leader of the women’s wing of the association of the deaf, Monsurat Abdulwasiu.

Speaking through an interpreter, Mrs. Abdulwasiu said persons with disabilities have suffered exclusion as they only look at images during news hours without understanding the message.

According to her, only Nigerian Television Authority has a sign language interpreter during one of its news hours.
