FG urged to slash NASS salaries to pay ASUU lecturers

Senator representing Borno South in the National Assembly, Ali Ndume, has urged the Federal Government to slash the salaries of NASS members by fifty percent to give to the Academic Staff Union of Universities to meet their pressing demands.

Senator Ndume stated this during an interaction with journalists in Maiduguri, while reacting to the alleged half-pay to ASUU members.

The former Senate Leader advised the FG to set up a high-powered standing committee of respected educationists and patriotic Nigerians to meet with the leadership of ASUU to find a lasting solution to the lecturers’ demands.

He noted that members of the National Assembly only assemble twice or so in a week and get paid as such.

Senator Ndume noted that civil servants who worked from home during the COVID-19 pandemic were paid their full monthly salaries and allowances and wondered why the federal government will cut university lecturers’ salaries because they went on legitimate strike.
