In a bid to reduce school drop-outs in the state, Gloria Diri Foundation (GDF) has organised a fundraising programme with the theme “quality education for all”.
The programme which was held at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Memorial Banquet hall, Yenagoa, was targeted at sponsoring one thousand children back to school thereby reducing illiteracy.
In an opening remarks, wife of the Bayelsa State Governor and President of GDF, Dr.Gloria Diri said laying emphasis for quality education can never be over emphasized as it is the right for every child to be educated if the society must be a better place.
Dr. Diri who called on all stakeholders to see that every child is educated appealed for their support to the fundraising to give hope to at least one thousand children.
According to the governor’s wife, there are some children that may look hopeless, but when given the opportunity will be better persons in the society noting the gesture would reduce crime.
Dr. Diri said the initiative is borne out of the need to improve especially the girl child and provide access to quality education for all.
She stated that the intervention will be continuous to correct the dismal trend of children drop out of school in the state noting that any nation that fails to prioritize the education of her people risks peace and embraces anarchy.
Also, the Coordinator, Gloria Diri Foundation, Dr. Juliet Teibowei said the aim of the fundraising was to help the needy and to put smiles in the faces of the less privileged in the society.
