Member representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District Senator, Seriake Dickson is set to launch this year’s edition of the Annual Nanaye Dickson Traditional Wrestling Competition.A statement by the Organizing Committee says the Programme will commence with presentation of trophies at Maitama, Abuja by noon with Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Sunday Dare special guest of honour, while Chairman Senate Committee on Sports and Youth Development, Senator Obinna Ogba is Chairman of the occasion.

Also Nigeria’s first Female Olympic Wrestling Medalist, Blessing Oborodudu, as guest of honour and the founder, Senator Dickson will be chief host of the event.The statement notes that this year’s theme for the event by Ofurumapepe Grassroots Wrestling Initiative is “Peace and Youth Empowerment through Sports”.

There will be unveiling of some Icons of Ijaw Wrestling, award of Ijaw Traditional Wrestling both home and abroad at the grand finale next month in Bayelsa State.

Nanaye Dickson Traditional Wrestling Tournament, which is an annual event, is in honour of Senator Dickson’s late father, a community leader and wrestler.

The event is also aimed at engaging Bayelsa youths to promote Ijaw traditional wrestling culture as well as serve as talent hunt.
