Governor Diri expresses hope for costal dwellers.

Governor Douye Diri says there is hope of better survival for coastal dwellers in the Niger Delta region following an interventionist project funded by the European Union. 

Governor Diri stated this at a two-day Inception/Ceremony and Cooperative Planning Event with the theme “Coping with Climate Change as a Cause of Conflict in Coastal Communities of West Africa”, C7-West Africa.

The event which took place at the Golden Tulip Hotel and Resort in Yenagoa represented by Secretary to the State Government, Alabo Gideon Ekeuwei, called on the European Union to intensify their support approach in helping  coastal communities from negative effect as a result of climate change.

Fielding questions from journalists, leaders of coastal communities expressed optimism of better days ahead for people who suffer negative impact and conflicts that are induced by climate change.

Representative of European Union in his response, promised to render support to the affected area to get commitments from state and non-state actors regarding the project.

He thanked the Italian Shipping Academy for appointing Nigeria Maritime University as local implementing partner.

The Security Component Coordinator of C7-West Africa, Air Commodore Darlington Abdullahi, provided insight into the C7 project.

Meanwhile Train the Trainer workshop is scheduled to hold in Delta, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Rivers States soon.

Dignitaries at the event are Chief of Defence Staff, Director-General of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, NESREA, representative of the Italian Shipping Academy, Chairman Bayelsa State Traditional Rulers Council, King Bubaraye Dakolo, and representatives of civil society groups.

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has congratulated all state governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that took the oath of office.

Governor Diri in a congratulatory message by his Chief Press Secretary. Mr. Daniel Alabrah, said a new chapter had been opened in the lives of the newly-sworn-in governors and in their individual states.

The governor wishes the seven new and three returning governors of the party impactful tenures as they begin and continue their journey to transform their states.

Governor Diri who said democracy thrives when the process of choosing leaders is unhindered, urged people of the various states to support their leaders to succeed, noting that governance is about team work with the people at the centre of the process.

He expressed confidence that the PDP will continue to provide the platform for democracy to thrive in Nigeria and to bring about the required transformation in the country.
