Governor Diri wants lovers of education to invest the sector

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri has called on lovers of education, stakeholders and old boys of Government Secondary School, Amassoma to take advantage of the many educational policies and programmes of his administration to advance education in the community.

He made the call at the golden jubilee celebration of Government Secondary School, Amassoma in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

Speaking through the Commissioner for Special Duties, Bayelsa West, Mr. Churson Obosi, Governor Diri commended the steering Committee for reawakening the consciousness of the people to collectively develop the institution, saying it can attract the desired transformation.

The governor who was a teacher in Government Secondary School, Amassoma assured of working closely with leadership of the school to ensure the development of education and called on the old boys to live up to the responsibility of building a strong institution.

Earlier, chairman of the occasion, Chairman Bayelsa Traditional Rulers Council and Ibenanaowei of Ekpetiama kingdom, King Bubaraye Dakolo challenged policy makers to look into the curriculum of the educational system to liberate the people from educated slavery.

King Dakolo emphasized the need for children to be educated to control God-given resources rather than playing the second fiddle to other regions and commended the school for the many quality men and women produced.

In a welcome address, principal of GSS Amassoma, Mr. Okhawere Dinabo appealed to the state government, old boys, community based organizations and stakeholders to identify with the school in the areas of permanent structures, academic staff, offices and residence for principal and other problems while congratulating staff and students.
