Nigeria’s junior handball teams, the under-18s and 20s registered impressive victories on the second day of the IHF Challenge Trophy Continental Phase in Congo.
After a day of mixed results for the country opening day of the competitions, both teams made the nation proud on day two.
The under-18s made it two wins in two matches while their senior colleagues, the under-20s, bounced back from that defeat in the first leg to record their first win.
The under-18 team continued their brilliant form under the tutelage of Coach Emeka Nnamani with another outstanding display in Congo,
The team came through as they got their second victory of the championship, with a 28-22 victory over host, Congo.
Coach Nnamani’s team started the competition in blistering fashion after proving too good for Burundi following a 45-30 win.
Elsewhere, their counterparts, the under-20 led by Coach Fidelis Obi have made adequate amends for their slim defeat on match day one with a better performance on day two.
The under-20s defeated their opponents from Madagascar by 20 goals after a remarkable 51-30 win.
With the win, the team has put behind them that disappointment against Guinea in their opener to get off the mark in the Continental Phase.
Match day 3 will see Nigeria play Zambia in the under 18 category at 11am while the under 20 category will play Zimbabwe at 1pm same day.
All matches will be played at the Gymnase Nicole OBA ( Nicole Oba Gymnasium) in Brazzaville.
