Speaking ahead of the Super Eagles 2023 AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone, Iwobi said he tried to convince Eberechi Eze to feature for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Alex Iwobi said he wish him all the best with the Three Lions. Three Lions coach Gareth Southgate handed Eze a call-up ahead of their Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia this month.
The 24-year-old has been rewarded for his fine form in the Premier League last season scoring 10 goals and made four assists.
In May 2021, Eze was called up to the senior England squad for the first time, as part of England’s 33-man provisional squad for Euro 2020 but got injured during training.
The Everton star however expressed confidence that Chuba Akpom will get his chance with the Super Eagles.
The former Arsenal striker finished as top scorer last season in the Championship with 28 goals from 38 appearances.
“That’s up to the coach in his selection unfortunately it’s very difficult because of the strikers we have who are on form.
