Kenya police arrest eight over hate leaflets

Police in Kenya have arrested eight people in relation to hate leaflets reportedly warning some communities to leave the Uasin Gishu area of the Rift Valley region, ahead of next week’s elections.

Local media report that Interior Minister, Fred Matiang’i said the suspects would be taken to court, while more security teams will be deployed to the areas where there is tension.

In June, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission listed Uasin Gishu as a possible hotspot for election-related violence this year.

Kenyans will head to the polls next week to elect a new President, forty-seven county governors, hundreds of members of Parliament and county ward representatives.
