Measles outbreak in Anambra State leaves fourteen children dead

 

Anambra State Government has confirmed the death of fourteen children, following the outbreak of measles in nine local council of the state.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, made the revelation in Awka, at a Post Measles Outbreak Response news conference in collaboration with the state Primary Healthcare Development Agency,
He added that the state had recorded four hundred and fourteen cases.

According to the Commissioner for Health, the nine councils affected include: Anambra East, Anambra West, Ayamelum, Ihiala, Idemili North, Nnewi North, Onitsha North, Njikoka, and Oyi
.
It would be recalled that the Nigeria Center for Disease Control in March registered the outbreak of measles in eight states of the federation including: Jigawa, Anambra, Katsina, Rivers, Enugu, Delta, Osun and Sokoto, from which nine hundred and eight suspected cases had been reported so far.
