GovernorDouyeDiriof Bayelsa State has appreciated Governor Emmanuel of Akwa-Ibom State for his show of love and brotherhood, especially during ongoing flood that has sacked thousands of people from their homes in the state.
GovernorDiri stated this when his counterpart led a delegation of members of his cabinet to Government House, Yenagoa to emphatise with the government and people of Bayelsa State.
The Governor decried that the only means of communication is by air and the maritime domain as the roads into the State have been cut off as well as power supply with electricity transformers submerged in water.
According to the State’s helmsman, the level of destruction is unimaginable as ninety-nine percent of people were displaced safe for communities close to the Atlantic Ocean because of the salinity of the water.
GovernorDiri, who said government had made a clarion call to corporate organisations, international agencies and multinational corporations, lauded his Akwa-Ibom counterpart for his response to the plight of the government and the people.
Earlier, Akwa-Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel hadsympathised with GovernorDiri over the flood situation in his state, describing it as very pathetic.
Governor Emmanuel, who led a delegation of members of his cabinet to Government House, Yenagoa said it was his cabinet’s decision to visit Bayelsa based on the magnitude of the flood.
He applauded the efforts of Governor Diriforstanding by his people in their moment of despair, describing his gesture as a mark of true leadership.
The Akwa-IbomGovernor, later presented a cheque of hundred million naira to GovernorDiri and announced that a truck-load of relief materials courtesy of his wife’s Family Empowerment Programme Foundation is on its way to support flood victims in the state.
