Moves to address oil theft underway, says federal government

Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami has said Federal Government is making concerted efforts in addressing oil theft including spending enormous resources on pipeline surveillance security through the regular Armed Forces budgetary spending.

Other efforts include payments to civilian security companies under unique Public Private Partnership arrangements.

The clarification came amidst demands by some northern organisations for the termination of the over forty-eight billion naira pipeline surveillance contract handled by repentant Niger Delta militant, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.

The minister of Justice said Federal Government had taken operational and strategic measures to deal with the challenge through the signing into Law of the Petroleum Industry Act, twenty, twenty-one after several years of legislative processing and cycles of review
