Myanmar military executes democracy activists

Reports say four democracy activists have been executed by Myanmar’s military in what is believed to be the first use of capital punishment in decades.

Former lawmaker Phyo Thaw, writer and activist Ko Jimmy, Hla Aung and Aung Zaw were accused of committing terror acts.

The executions, coming in the wake of last year’s military coup were first announced by the military, last month, which drew international condemnation.

It would be recalled that the junta last year February overthrew the democratically elected government of Aung Kyi’s of the National League for Democracy, sparking protests which were swiftly crushed.
