Over Six hundred irregular immigrants arrested by NIS, Bayelsa State Command

Nigeria Immigration Service NIS, Bayelsa State Command, have arrested over six hundred irregular immigrants in the state who are yet to revalidate their papers.

The arrests were made in different locations across Yenagoa including Obele, Arrietalin, Otiotio, Onopa and Ogu, since the operation began on the night of this month.

While parading some of the foreigners before journalists, Comptroller of the Command, Mr. Sunday James, said the clampdown on irregular immigrants was in line with the directive of the Comptroller General of NIS,Mr. Isah Idris that all who are yet to regularize their papers be fished out, in response to the growing incidences of crime across the country.

He said the exercise was not meant to witch-hunt any individual or group of persons.

Giving a breakdown of figures of those arrested the state NIS Comptroller maintained that his men were professional in the course of the exercise.

The NIS boss however enjoined citizens to report anyone yet to regularize their papers to the appropriate quarters for necessary action.
