Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri has commended security agencies for their efforts in tackling crime and criminality in the state.
Speaking through his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, at the 95th Weekly State Executive Council Meeting in Government House, Yenagoa, the Governor maintained that the efforts of security agencies have contributed greatly to the peace being enjoyed in the state.
He however urged them not to rest on their oars but rather redouble their efforts to ensure that the prevailing security situation is not only sustained but also improved upon during and after the yuletide.
Governor Diri cautioned the youths against perpetuating crime during the Christmas season, saying the period marking the birth of Christ must not be used to undo their fellow humans.
According to the Bayelsa Chief Executive, government is working in conjunction with the security agencies will deal decisively with anyone found wanting.
He also advised the political class to play by the rules as the country approaches the 2023 general elections, saying government will not fold its arms and watch politicians turn a civil exercise to warfare.
Governor Diri equally congratulated the Commissioner for Sports, Dr. Daniel Igali, and state’s contingent to the 21st National Sports Festival hosted in Asaba, Delta State, wherein Bayelsa took 2nd position on the medals table next only to the hosts.
According to the Governor, Bayelsa had been making steady progress at the Sports Festival in recent years, and expressed optimism that with preparations, the state will overtake Delta State at the next edition of the festival to be hosted by Ogun State.
He also gave a pass mark to the Government House press crew for their commitment, hard work, support and loyalty in the outgoing year.
He advised the people maintain the peace and enjoy the Christmas within your capacity and encouraged politicians to play according to the rules. Noting that should not be turned to warfare.
According to him, government will not seat docile and allow people perpetuate violence in the name of politics, but make sure the election is won by the votes of the people.
