Senator Ewhrudjakpo charges Bayelsa United as promotion to premier league beckons

Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo has challenged Bayelsa United F.C to redouble their efforts to qualify for the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Senator Ewhrudjakpo, gave the charge when he hosted the players and technical crew of the club to a quarterly dinner initiated by him as a morale booster to surmount their opponents in upcoming matches at Golden Tulip Hotel, Onopa, in Government House, Yenagoa.

The Deputy Governor, who said both female and male teams of the state have become signature names in the nation’s football history, noted that corporate organizations including banks are now indicating interest in the sponsorship of the state-owned football clubs.

He called on the players to keep their eyes fixed on qualifying for the premier league, particularly as they currently sit top on the log to the NPLF.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo also reassured them of Governor Douye Diri-led administration’s support to prioritize their welfare.

In their separate goodwill messages, Majority Leader of Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Mr. Monday Obolo-Bubou and his Minority Whip counterpart, Mr. Timi Omubo-Agala, praised government for its support and commitment to sports development.

They also commended the players and technical crew for the synergy to achieve the current results and urged them to keep their winning spirit alive to record more victories for the state in the future.

In a remark, Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Dr. Daniel Igali, described the state-owned football clubs as ranking among the best-looked-after teams in the country, irrespective of the league and position they occupy.

Dr. Igali, who attributed their performances to government’s policies, thanked Governor Diri and his Deputy, Senator Ewhrudjakpo for attaching high premiums on sports development.

Also, Chairman of Bayelsa United FC, Mr. Ebiki Timitimi, while narrating their journey in the National League, said though the road was rough at the beginning, the team is confident of victory as the games gradually wind down.

Mr. Timitimi equally thanked the state government for the encouragement given to the team to get their best in both home and away features.
