It was an historic moment for the University of Africa, Toru-Orua (UAT) when the
University Governing Council approved the promotion of two lecturers to the
Professorial cadre last Friday.
The newly-minted Professor is Director, Academic Planning and Head,
Department of Mathematics and Computer Science Jackson Akpojaro who is also
the Chairman, Central Examination/,Time-Table Committee.
The other is Dr. Rotimi Olajide who is the Director of Students Industrial Work
Experience Scheme (SIWES) and Head, Department of Animal Production and
Health.
Dr. Olajide, now an Associate Professor, is also the Acting Director of UAT Farms
Ltd.
Reacting to the development, Vice-Chancellor of UAT, Professor Kingston
Nyamapfene said it is an important milestone for the relatively new university
community and a beacon of greater academic feats.
Professor Kingston Nyamapfene explained that their elevation to Professorship by
UAT Governing Council was based on their outstanding research output and
strong evidence of excellence in teaching.
While congratulating the elevated lecturers on behalf of the UAT Governing
Council Chairman, the Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Kemela Okara challenged other
academic staff to take a queue from them.
He reiterated that the University of Africa, Toru-Orua is committed to its vision of
"enhancing teaching and research excellence dedicated to generating knowledge
for innovation and service" to meet evolving dynamics of society.
Vice-Chancellor, Kingston Nyamapfene charged both staff and students to take
advantage of the right tools and environment at the University of Africa, Toru-
Orua to improve their skills.
The UAT Governing Council also approved dozens of staff promotions that were
concluded since twenty-nineteen.
