Zone sixteen Command of the Nigerian Police Force, Yenagoa, has ordered the arrest and investigation of 4 Police personnel including an Inspector involved in an alleged abduction and extortion of 20,000 000 naira from two suspected Internet fraudsters popularly known as ‘Yahoo Boys’ in Bayelsa State.
The arrested Police personnel said 2 civilian accomplices, Eyi Excel, a former state Assembly contestant and Mayor Goodluck, now at large allegedly set-up the suspected fraudsters for the extortion scam.
It was gathered that the accused Policemen stormed the residence of the ‘Yahoo Boys’, who had just returned from Ghana and arrested them with blindfold to an unknown hotel in Azikoro town.
The officers had allegedly threatened to kill the duo if they don’t part with 50,000 000 naira, claiming that someone from Ghana accused them of theft.
Reports say the suspected fraudsters later succumbed, agreed to part with 20,000 000 million naira and took the Policemen to two commercial banks and made two separate transfers of seven and thirteen million naira.
Confirming the incident, Public Relations Officer, Zone sixteen, Mrs. Ikwo Kevin, said some fraudster known as Yahoo boys, allegedly defrauded some foreigners of the sum of twenty-eight thousand dollars, which they went after them and got them arrested.
According to her the alleged fraudster confessed to the crime and pleaded for liniency but the officers compromised by collecting monies from them, which led to their arrest.
She said the monies have been recovered, while investigation is ongoing
