Nigeria confirms outbreak of Monkey pox

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed circulation of monkey pox disease with five hundred and fifty-eight cases and eight deaths in thirty-two states of the federation.

Following a report by the United Kingdom Health Security Agency that a person in England had been diagnosed with Monkeypox after recently travelling from Nigeria, It said the person is receiving care at the Infectious Disease Unit of Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London.
An epidemiological summary on the ailment published by the NCDC, pointed out that since September twenty-seventeen, Nigeria has continued to report sporadic cases of the disease.

The centre said forty-six suspected infections were reported between January first and April this year in addition to fifteen confirmed cases from seven states including Adamawa, Lagos, Cross River , Abuja , Kano, Delta and Imo.
